If you knew Helen, you knew laughter, love, and joy. She lived life on her own terms, following her heart wherever it led. Her journey took her down many roads, each adding a unique chapter to the remarkable story of her life.
Helen was independent, spirited, and unforgettable. While she was not perfect—as none of us are—she inspired those around her to live boldly, laugh often, and never allow life to become ordinary. Her vibrant personality and zest for life left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
On July 3, 2026, Helen Hughes went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with the family and loved ones who had gone before her.
Helen was preceded in death by her father, Harold Hoffman; her mother, Louise Hoffman; her son, Jack Hoffman; her sisters, Sandra Largin and Betty Durham; and her spouses, Ronney Massey and Norman Hughes.
She is survived by her niece, Laura Jones, and her nephew, Robert Durham, who will continue to cherish her memory and the many moments of love and laughter they shared with her.
Helen will be laid to rest at Forest Crest Cemetery in Irondale, Alabama on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 12:00 PM. A private family celebration of life ceremony will be held in her honor.
Though Helen's earthly journey has come to an end, her spirit, laughter, and love will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered always.
