Jim attended Fairfield High School and also studied accounting at Samford University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era and was subsequently employed as an Internal Revenue Service Agent for 25 years, with postings in Florence, Al, Tampa, Fl and Atlanta, Ga.
Jim was a faithful member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church for many years, serving as a loyal member of the BPUMC Chancel Choir. Jim had the privilege of serving as a member of several local civic organizations including the Top Hat Dance Club and the citywide dance organization, the Birmingham Fraternal Council, of which he also served as President.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fay Kilburn Nichols; daughter, Jennifer Lynn Driscoll; son, Jeffrey Wayne Nichols; and grandchildren Avery & Alexandra Fallon and Brittany Nichols.
Jim will be buried at the Alabama National Cemetery for Veterans in Montevallo, Alabama on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 1:15 PM.
