She married her soulmate, Ralph Jackson Gilliland, at age 14, and throughout their marriage, they enjoyed fishing, gardening, and dancing together. She was also an avid football and baseball fan. After raising her family and losing her husband, she began working at a local nursing home and then as a retail merchandiser for Hallmark.
She was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class at Siluria Baptist Church. Imogene was smart, outgoing, and always dressed her best. She loved her family cruises and her most prized possession was a family photo that covered 5 generations. She will be terribly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jackson Gilliland; her son, Randy Gilliland; and brother-in-law, Malcolm Smith. She is survived by her children, Dianne Colegrove (Tom), Marla Parton (Dennis), and Ricky Gilliland (Debra); 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Price, Leonard Caver (June), Elizabeth Smith, Margaret Pierce, and Linda Sue Hollinger; and countless nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with visitation to begin at 12:00 PM.
