Born on December 6, 1928, in Sallis, Mississippi, to Robert Levi and Bessie Robertson Bishop, Louise spent her childhood in Durant, Mississippi, growing up surrounded by loving grandparents and cousins. She graduated from Durant High School in 1947. In 1951, Louise married Decell Owens of Shivers, Mississippi. Together, they built a beautiful life in Montevallo, Alabama, where they raised their two girls and resided for 58 cherished years.
A faithful member of Montevallo First Baptist Church and active member of the Montevallo Garden Club, Louise found joy in nurturing her garden and sharing the delicious meals made from its bounty — especially her famous green beans. An avid gardener, she was known for cultivating beautiful roses and glorious angel trumpets.
For over 30 years, Louise served as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Carmichael Library at the University of Montevallo. Upon her retirement in 1996, she was honored as a Staff Emeritus for her years of dedicated service. Always putting others first, “Honey” was well known for opening her home to countless university students, providing them with home cooked meals, warmth, and a listening ear — a home away from home. Prior to her role at the university, she operated a daycare from her home, nurturing the children of faculty and staff with the same loving devotion.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Levi and Bessie Robertson Bishop; her husband, Decell Owens; and her siblings, John, Delma, Levi, Leroy, Eugene Bishop, and Lorraine Cripps.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Edwards; her daughters, Debra Owens and Connie Hall; her grandchildren, Chris Hatch (Valerie), Regina Errington, Bo Owens (Amy), and Angela Mintun (Brad); and her great-grandchildren, Christina Hannah, Lillie and Garrison Owens, Owen and Finn Mintun, and Andrew and Gracian Errington.
A loving daughter, sister, cousin, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Louise will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to a service in her honor at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo, Alabama, on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Louise will be laid to rest at Montevallo City Cemetery.
