Martha Elizabeth Nelson Hyde

Martha Elizabeth Nelson Hyde, age 89, of Montevallo, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 22, 2021. Martha was born February 20, 1932. However, the way events were recorded in those years, she said she actually was born on Abraham Lincoln's birthday, February 12, 1932.

She was the 8th child born to John and Ida Nelson. Three of her brothers passed away during their infant years. After her parents traveled around a while, they settled in Dogwood where Martha and her 5 other siblings grew up. She met and married George Lewis Hyde on December 18, 1949 and had 3 children in the years that followed.

She dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She was a faithful Christian and devoted member of Dogwood Assembly of God Church.

She enjoyed collecting various items and could see a purpose in all she collected. She was always willing to share her thoughts and advice to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years and 11 months, George Lewis Hyde; son, Lewis Wayne Hyde; parents, John and Ida Nelson; brother, Raymond Nelson; and sisters, Fanny Booth, Dorothy Forrest, Margaret Lunsford and Jeanette Goggins.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Hamm (Calvin); son, David Hyde (Margie); grandchildren, James Hamm (Nancy), Kevin Hamm, Brandy Hamm, Shannon Hyde, Travis Hyde, and Jon Hyde (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Molly and Harley Hyde; brothers-in-law, Ed Hyde (Judy) and Glen Hyde; sister-in-law, Sarah Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Martha will be held Friday, November 26, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM. Bro. Larry Webb will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Antioch Cemetery in Pea Ridge, Alabama.
