

Melinda "Lin" Sue Kendrick, age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on March 7, 2021. Originally from Chicago, she was the only child of Harmon and Hilda Vernson Seely. Lin moved to Birmingham in 1967 to raise her four children with their father, William F. Shinnick. She later married Carey Kendrick of Montevallo with whom she had two additional children. She retired from UAB and enjoyed retirement by participating in Seasoned Performers, a local senior community theater group. Lin loved playing games, solving word puzzles, traveling, and especially high-spirited family gatherings. She will be remembered most of all for her sharp wit and humorous stories.
Left to treasure her memory is her son, Michael Shinnick (Amy) of Daphne, AL; daughters, Colleen Lastrapes (John) of Missouri City, TX, Susan Brasher of Panama City, FL, Nancy Shinnick of Birmingham, AL, Careylin North (Matthew) of Canton, GA, and Heather Kendrick of Montevallo, AL; grandchildren, Jason Gothard (Crystal), Corey Soule, Kelsey Goddard (Kyle), Solon Brasher, Mary Brasher, Gabrielle Roach (Vince), Thomas Lastrapes, Kylie North and Harmony North; great-grandchildren, Savannah Goddard, Tatum Begnaud, Emily Gothard, Avery Soule, Gwyneth Gothard, Ethan Soule, Ella Brasher, Julia Roach, and Grace Roach; former husband and friend, Carey Kendrick; and sister of her heart, Mary Kostelyk (Cal).
