Michael Edward Stone was a hardworking man, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a man whose greatest pride was the family he built and loved so deeply.
Michael spent his entire life working with his hands. A true blue-collar man, he made his living building homes, putting in long days and doing honest work. He believed in staying busy, doing things the right way, and never being afraid of hard work. Sitting idle was never really his way. If there was something that needed fixing, building, moving, or doing, Michael was there. He always had to have something to work on and a reason to keep his hands busy.
But as much as Michael loved his work, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving father to his children, who meant the world to him. And then came his grandchildren—so many of them, each one carrying a piece of his heart. Michael loved his grandchildren dearly, and his family knew just how much they meant to him. He was blessed not only to love them, but to be loved by them in return.
Michael had a big heart, a strong spirit, and the kind of presence that left an impression. He wasn't a man who needed a lot of fuss or fancy things. He understood the value of hard work, family, loyalty, and simply being there for the people he loved.
And if you knew Michael, you also knew there was one thing you could count on: he was a proud Alabama Crimson Tide fan. “Roll Tide” was more than just a saying—it was part of who he was. He could always find a reason to cheer for Alabama and share his love of the Crimson Tide with those around him.
Michael's life was measured not by wealth or possessions, but by the homes he built, the work he put his hands to, the family he raised, and the countless memories he left behind. He built more than houses during his lifetime. Michael built a family, a legacy, and a life that will continue through the children and grandchildren he loved so much.
Though he will be deeply missed, Michael's hands may no longer be busy with the work he loved, but the work of his life remains all around him—in the homes he helped build, in the lessons he taught, and most of all, in the hearts of his family.
Michael is survived by his wife, Karen Stone; his children, Michael Stone Jr., Matthew Stone (Jessica), Randy Dixon, Johnny Bagwell (Marissa), Amanda Christian (Blake), and Zac Dixon (McKenley); his grandchildren, Mykah Bland, Micah Stone, Johnathan Stone, Leah Stone, Lexi Varner, Austin Stone, James Stone, Katie Stone, Olivia Stone, Kitty Stone, and Xodi Christian; and his great-grandchild, Everly Dixon. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Stone (Jean), BJ Stone (Sherry), and sister, Brenda Robinson as well as a host of nephews and nieces.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, BJ and Margaret Stone, and his brothers, Terry and Ricky Stone.
Michael's family will carry his memory forward, remembering his strength, his stubborn determination, his love of Alabama football, his need to always be doing something, and the unmistakable love he had for them.
Rest peacefully, Michael. You worked hard, you loved hard, and you left this world with a family who loved you right back.
Roll Tide.
