Myrtle Irene Mitchell Dobbs

Myrtle Irene Mitchell Dobbs, age 90, of Clanton, Alabama passed away at home with her family at her bedside on Thursday, June 15, 2023. She and her sister were one of two sets of twins born to Lee Roy Johnson and Jewel Dovie Wright Johnson of Butler County, Alabama. She was a professional seamstress and quilter and raised her four daughters as a single mother after her husband, Billy Franklin Mitchell of Shelby County, died in 1969 . She did find love again after 10 years when she met and married Wilburn Rudolph Dobbs of Vincent. She attended Concord Baptist Church for many years, and was most recently a member of Clanton Church of God. She was a pet lover and loved many dogs and birds over the years. She loved books and read the Bible faithfully. She was a loving mother and Granny, and her legacy will be cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; sons-in-law, Jimmy Freeman, Johnny Woodall and Ricky Holmes; and her siblings, Richard Johnson, Myrtis Mitchell, Raymond Johnson, Margie Bullard, and Margaret Hyde. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Mitchell Freeman of Clanton, Debra Mitchell Brantley of Jemison, Evelyn Mitchell Holmes of Jemison and Sherry Mitchell Mills (Michael) of Clanton; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Jones of Florida and Vera Sue Hatcher of Columbiana; sister-in-law, Faye Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Myrtle will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 3:30 PM at Dargin Cemetery, Hwy 22, Calera, Alabama.

Pastor Tommy Williams will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Woodall, Kevin Woodall, Christopher Mills, Gage Ryder, Jacob Ryder, Trent Freeman, Michael Mills, Lance Dennis, Matt Porter and Jarred Blake.
