Dayle was the son of Roy Willis Woolley and Elinor Isabel Woolley (née Peters), both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Sharon Jones and Cathy Gideon.
Dayle earned a Bachelor's degree from University of Montevallo, followed by a Juris Doctor degree from Birmingham School of Law. He later returned to University of Montevallo to complete his MBA. Early in Dayle’s career, he was employed by Pullman Manufacturing in Bessemer, Alabama.
In his younger years, Dayle was dedicated to weightlifting and physical fitness. He was especially proud of being the "fun uncle" to his three nephews. They fondly remember his piggy-back rides, playful "straight-razor shaves" performed with a finger, and the gentle pinching of earlobes to pretend they were getting earrings. These simple acts brought laughter and created cherished memories that remained with them throughout their lives.
A lifelong learner, Dayle had an extraordinary love of reading and science. His curiosity knew few bounds; remarkably, he read the entire encyclopedia. Dayle was especially fascinated by astronomy and spent countless hours exploring the wonders of the universe through books and study.
Though Dayle never married and had no children of his own, he shared a close bond with his family and leaves behind three beloved nephews: James Johnson Gideon, Benjamin Roy Gideon, and David William Gideon.
Dayle will be remembered for his keen mind, his love of knowledge, his sense of humor, and the affection he showed to those fortunate enough to know him.
A graveside service to honor Dayle’s legacy will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 am at Montevallo City Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
