Ruby E. Wright

Ruby Elaine Wright, age 100, of Calera, formerly of Bessemer and Pea Ridge, passed away October 28, 2016 at home surrounded by her family, under the care of New Beacon Hospice. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years until her retirement at 77 years of age for Dr. Champlain in Bessemer. She attended Montevallo First Baptist Church and South Highlands Baptist Church in Bessemer. Ruby loved travelling, crocheting, sewing and needlepoint. Granny was known to make cornbread second to none and enjoyed telling stories about having met and “not given the time of day to Glenn Campbell”. She appeared on the Lawrence Welk Show and loved to tell of having danced on National Television.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Wright and Siblings. She is survived by her son, Jack Benny Wright; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, many extended family and a special nephew who loved her as his own.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Dr. Terry Sutton will officiate and burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery.
