Sandra C. Collins

Sandra C Collins, 74, of Calera, Alabama, passed away on August 8, 2026. Born December 25, 1951, Sandra will be remembered as a beloved and cherished presence—steady in devotion, gentle in spirit, and generous in the quiet, enduring ways that shape a family and a community.

From her early years, Sandra’s gifts were evident in both mind and music. She graduated from West End High School in Birmingham, Alabama, where her love of music began as she played the piano and cello. She later graduated from the University of Montevallo with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English with a minor in Music—an education that reflected her thoughtful wisdom and the lifelong harmony she carried between language and song.

Sandra devoted herself to teaching and to the careful encouragement of others. She taught English at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama for 10 years, guiding students with compassionate patience and a faithful sense of purpose. For more than 25 years, she also served as a private piano teacher, sharing not only skill and discipline, but the gentle confidence that comes from being truly seen and supported.

Her faith was a defining anchor of her life. Sandra was a founding member of Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster, Alabama, where she served as pianist for 34 years. Through those years, her steady presence and generous service offered comfort and continuity, and her music became part of the church’s shared memory—an expression of devotion that needed no spotlight to be deeply felt.

Sandra was married to Darryl Collins for 53 years, a testament to a life built on faithful commitment and enduring love. She was the mother of five children: Kimberly Nowak, Shane Collins (Ginger), Lee Collins (Samantha), Lisa Dorough (Patrick), and Zac Collins (Stephanie).

She was also “Noni” to 16 grandchildren: Nicole, Payton, Joey, Megan, Grant, Harper, Reid, Shelby, Taylor, Jake, Riley, Cooper, Hudson, Brooklynn, Drew, and Ben. In the midst of a full and giving life, Sandra’s warmth and wise steadiness made room for laughter, and her understated humor brightened the everyday moments that families hold closest.

Sandra leaves behind her dog, Scout. She often said her dogs were her best friend—a simple truth that reflected her tender heart and the comfort she found in loyal companionship.

Sandra’s life was marked by compassion, devotion, and faith, offered with a gentle strength and a generous spirit. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
