It would be wrong to say she lost her fight because she never stopped fighting. No matter what life threw at her she fought through breast cancer, heart problems and several other ailments but always remained strong in her will to overcome. There was no quit in Shirley Penhale.
Though Shirley struggled for several years with her health, she refused to give in and continued her fight to the end.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Arthur Meeks; her mother, Esther Irene Carr and her sister Barbara Jean Hawk.
She is survived by her sisters, Gail Davidson, Amie Kelly (Jim) and June Davenport; and her brother, Jim Meeks.
She is also survived by her three sons, Charles Garry Penhale (Gail), Donald Wayne Penhale (Vicki) and James Iverson Penhale (Victoria).
She had seven grandchildren, Drew, Nicholas (Christine), Rebecca, Ashley, Caleb (Lindsay), Kristen (Joe) and Matthew (Mimi) and Kyle (AJ) Stevens.
She had twelve Great-grandchildren, Lily, Lucas, Isla, Cora, Lily, David, Caitlin, Addyson, Bradley, Hannah, Blake and Harper with one Great-grandchild soon to be born.
There will be a private graveside service only at the Helena City Cemetery. A memorial service is planned for later in the year.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the Kindred nurses who regularly visited Shirley.
