Shirlie McQueen Mayfield

Mayfield, Shirlie McQueen, 84, died on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at her home in Montevallo. Mrs. Mayfield was born on September 8, 1935. She was married to Dr. (Milton) Ray Mayfield. Mrs. Mayfield was a graduate of Jones Valley High School. Mrs. Mayfield was a manager at Social Security Administration in Birmingham, AL. After her retirement from the Social Security Administration, she worked at Ernest McCarty Ford and volunteered at American village. She was a beloved member of the Montevallo community. She also took care of and loved many animals – especially her cherished dog Precious. Mrs. Mayfield was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister (Miriam Rasco), and brother (Parker McQueen). She is survived by her son, Dr. Milton Ray Mayfield, Jr. (Dr. Jacqueline Mayfield) of Cotulla, Texas, nephew James Rasco (Dr. Jane Rasco), and niece Melinda Murib (Talal Murib). The funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Montevallo City Cemetery. Due to travel restrictions and health concerns about the COVID-19 virus, a memorial service is tentatively scheduled for September 8. Further details will be posted later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mayfield Scholarship Fund, care of the UM Foundation, Station 6220, University of Montevallo, Montevallo, AL 35115, or the Shelby County Humane Society, 381 McDow Rd, Columbiana, AL 35051.
