Sue Allen Turner

Sue Allen Turner, 92, of Bessemer, Alabama, passed away on August 28, 2026. Born January 12, 1934, Sue lived a long life marked by steady resilience, deep love, and a gift for bringing lightness to the days of those around her.

In her early years, Sue was the youngest of four children and proudly known as a “daddy’s girl.” In high school she played the clarinet and was honored as homecoming queen. After high school, she worked in a law office and sang in a piano bar early signs of the warmth and spirited humor that would remain part of her presence throughout her life. Sue also attended Ole Miss.

Sue was married to Charles Turner, Sr. for 62 years, a devoted partnership that anchored her life and family. She was a loving mother to two sons, Chip Turner (Alana) and Don Turner (Sherri), and a cherished grandmother to Chad Bryan and granddaughters Erin and Steffie Turner. Through the years, Sue’s care for her family was constant expressed in the everyday ways that make a home feel safe, steady, and full of affection.

Sue loved to weave song lyrics into conversations as a way of reaching people. She had a gift for making people laugh, and her humor; steady natural, and well-timed was part of how she cared for others. Her interests reflected a lively mind and a generous heart: she enjoyed reading, crosswords, and birdwatching. She had a green thumb, and took delight in simple things like frogs, shopping, and chocolate.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Turner Sr.; her parents, Luther and Dora Armstrong; her sisters, Virginia and Katherine; and her brother, Luther Jr.

Sue will be remembered with gratitude and respect, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A big part of her life was being a part of the social circles that being a Military Officers wife. She was the glue that held the family together while he was gone at war.

There will be a private ceremony for family at a later time.
