Sylvia L Byrd

Sylvia Lee Byrd, age 84, of Montevallo, Alabama passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Sylvia was born on November 16, 1940, to Rene’ and Hilda Hidalgo in Allen Parish, Louisiana.

Sylvia graduated from McNeese University with a bachelor’s degree in education. On June 20, 1964, she married Robert M. Byrd, Jr. In 1965, Sylvia and Robert moved to Montevallo, Alabama. Sylvia taught at multiple public schools as well as Shelby Academy for many years. She loved teaching and all her students loved her very much. Sylvia and Robert became parents in 1969 to Lance and then again in 1977 to Renee. She left teaching in the early 1980’s to partner with Robert in their family business at Green Valley Farms, Inc.

Sylvia loved raising her children, learning about new things, cooking, music, dancing and spending time with their friends. She was also involved with the Shelby County Cowbelles. She and Robert attended Wilton Bible Baptist Church.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Rene’ and Hilda Hidalgo and her brother, Rene’ Hidalgo. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert; her children, Lance (Liana) Byrd, Renee (Scottie) Fochtmann; her grandchildren, Beaux (Kayla) Byrd, Tyler Byrd, Nicole (Bryce) Ivey, Natalie Fochtmann, Gabby Hunt and Alex Hunt; and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Joby Frame, Randy Frame, Lee Shelley, Arthur Lee, Beaux Byrd and Tyler Byrd.

Visitation is Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00am at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo with a graveside service to follow at Old Salem Cemetery in Montevallo.
