

Unafae Busby Sides, age 86, of Calera, Alabama passed away in the comfort of her own home surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, May 19, 2025. The only daughter of Dewey and Lillian Busby, she grew up on a farm with her three brothers that she adored. After high school, she began working at UAB with special needs children. Her caregiving and nurturing continued throughout her life, caring for anyone who needed help. She was a lifelong member of Enon Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School class, and volunteered in the nursery and Vacation Bible School. She and her husband, John Harvell Sides, Sr., were happily married for 59 years, and they enjoyed traveling to the beach, birdwatching and attending regular family gatherings. Mama Faye was a loving grandmother, dedicated aunt, gifted painter and an avid gardener. For 30 years, she worked in medical insurance and she was a wealth of medical information. In her 50s, she attended Bessemer Tech, where she made the Dean's List and earned a degree in Horticulture.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Lillian Hardaman Busby; her husband, John Harvell Sides, Sr.; son-in-law, Michael "Tony" Rochester; brothers, Gordon Busby and Roger "Tim" Busby; and sister-in-law, Lois Busby. She is survived by her daughter, DeAnn "Dee" Rochester; her son, John "Randy" Harvell Sides, Jr. (Mary Ann); grandchildren, Kelly Rochester Denna (Adam), Kari Rochester Sweat (Andrew) and Kristen Sides; great-grandchildren, Brooks, Nixon, Sawyer and Slayton; brother, Eugene Busby (Jane); sister-in-law, Eleanor Busby; nieces, Vicky Johnson (Jeff), Vivian Smith, Brenda Busby, Christy Shoemaker, Bethany Raygoza (Omar) and Lindsay Czarnecki (Kevin); nephews, Wendell Garner and Ellis Garner, Jr. (Glynda); numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Prissy.
The family would like to say thanks to Enhabit Hospice, with special recognition to Jessica, Eryn, Sharon, Sonya, Riley, Christy and Amy.
A visitation for Faye will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, AL 35115 with her funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Enon Cemetery in Montevallo. Bro. Bill Trawick will officiate.
