Walter Joe Cochran Jr.

Walter Joe Cochran Jr., 83, passed away on September 18, 2026. Born July 10, 1943, Walter grew up around Phenix City and Opelika, places that helped shape a steady, hard-working spirit and the kind-hearted way he moved through the world. He was deeply beloved, and his quiet warmth often paired with a well-timed sense of humor left people feeling welcomed and at ease in his presence.

Walter served in the Marines for four years, a commitment that reflected his sense of duty and perseverance. Throughout his life, he carried himself with the same reliability and strength, offering care to others not through grand gestures, but through consistent support, loyalty, and the simple goodness of showing up.

Walter was married to his loving wife, Sharon, for 44 years. He is survived by his children Jeff Cochran(Jamie), Kimberly Curl, and Blaine Williams(Amy); grandchildren Anna Williams, Hollis, Culley, Bella, Zane, Dustin, and Dyllan; and great grandson Michael. He is also survived by his brother Norman Hammock(Michele) and sisters Connie Lepper(Butch), Diane McKinney(Lee), and Trudy Bates(Wallace).

Those who knew Walter will remember how much he loved fishing, hunting, and time at the lake simple pleasures that suited him, and that he shared with friends and buddies and, most especially, his grandchildren. In those moments, his affection was unmistakable, his humor easy, and his presence a steady comfort.

A Committal Service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115, US, on September 23, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
