William "Buzz" Warren Abell III

William “Buzz” Abell III, US Marine, father, golfer, and devoted husband, died on Thursday, February 4th, 2021 at age 73. He was born April 1, 1947 in Mobile and raised in Homewood, AL until he left home to serve his country proudly in the US Marine Corp. After several trips around the world he made his home in Calera, AL.

William was an accomplished golfer at Thompson High School, and would go on to find success in the design and construction of golf courses around the world. He continued to compete at the highest levels of the game his entire life winning his last title at Timberline as the 2016 Member Champion.

William is preceded in death by his father, William W. Abell Jr. and his mother, Nell McKenzie Abell. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura and his sons, William W. Abell IV and Anthony Abell.

His brilliant mind and fierce determination will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on February 9, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama. Funeral Service will be held on February 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at Rockco Funeral Home. Burial will be held on February 10, 2021 at 1:15 pm at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama.

It has been a pleasure working with Mr. Abell for the past year. He will be missed very much!! I'm glad I got to know this wonderful family and can now call them my friends.
