William Cary Jones Jr.

William Cary Jones Jr., age 95, of Pelham, Alabama passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022. William was born December 17, 1926 to William Cary Jones and Henry Farrington Jones. "Nabe" grew up in Six Mile, Alabama, on his family farm. After graduating Bibb County High School, he joined the US Navy at age 17 and served in World War II. Following that, he married Helen Joyce Winsper and they started their family. He worked in the sheet mill at US Steel in Fairfield and retired after 36 years. He was a lifelong member of Six Mile Baptist Church. He never met a stranger and loved sharing stories. He loved working in the yard and read his Bible everyday. Most of all, he loved spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and became known to everyone as PooPaw.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Joyce Jones; and sister, Mary Louise Crider. He is survived by his son, William Cary "Billy" Jones, III (Lisa) of Alabaster; daughter, Helen Jones Holder of Helena; grandchildren, Cassie Gamble, Cory Jones (Erin), Courtney Wise (Hunter) and Henry Holder (Katie); great-grandchildren, Logan, Piper, Riley, Baker, Alias and Alex; brother, James Henry Jones (Jane); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for William will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Six Mile Baptist Church, 182 West Ashby Road, Brierfield, Alabama 35035, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with burial to follow at Six Mile Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Six Mile Baptist Church.
