
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Bascom Elmore Sr. and Mary Lee Elmore.
He is survived by his children, Albert Bascom Elmore III and Hassen Elmore of Atlanta, Georgia; Thomas Gill Elmore and Tina Elmore of Weatherford, Texas; and Mary Lee Yelverton and John Yelverton of Montgomery, Alabama. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Earl Adams of Dothan, Alabama; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mr. Elmore was a 1951 graduate of Troy High School and graduated from the University of Alabama, where he lettered three years in football. As quarterback in 1954, he set several Southeastern Conference passing records, including what was then the longest touchdown pass in Alabama history. He was a teammate of Bart Starr and later served as a graduate assistant under legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
On June 6, 1956, he married Lee Gayle of Selma, Alabama. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this June.
He began his over 60-year career with State Farm in 1960, serving in Huntsville before becoming an area manager in Montgomery. He later returned to agency work in Tallassee, Alabama, where he remained active until his passing. The family extends special thanks to his Tallassee team for their support over the past 26 years.
An accomplished golfer, Mr. Elmore shot his age more than one thousand times and served as both a board member and president of the Alabama Golf Association.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Montgomery Country Club.
