Alfred Louis Harrison, Jr., 77, passed away Sunday morning, August 14, 2022. Al was a devoted husband, father, and Grandad. He was born in Panama City, Florida and grew up in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Pacelli High School, Columbus College with an associate’s degree and the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management. At Columbus College he met the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Nancy. After college Al was drafted into the army where he spent two years in service of his country. At the end of his military service he was hired as the Athletics Director by the Whitehead Boys Club in Atlanta, Georgia, later serving as their Program Director. He continued his career with the Boys (and later Boys and Girls) Clubs of Montgomery where he was the executive director for 32 years. Al’s many talents and contributions were recognized by the induction into 2 halls of fame, the Boys and Girls Clubs Alabama Area Council Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Pacelli High School Vikings Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022. Over the years he loved rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs, coaching Dixie Youth League Baseball, singing in the church choir, playing golf and bridge. He especially enjoyed traveling with Nancy. He will be missed by his many friends and family. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Louis Harrison, Sr., mother, Marianna (Swank) Harrison and his daughter-in-law Valerie (Scott) Harrison. He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy (Marchbanks) Harrison, his sons Randy (Suzanne) and Steve, his grandchildren Maddie, Nick and Gwyn and his step-grandson Daniel Stovall. A service to celebrate Al’s life will be held Saturday August 20 at 1:00 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Montgomery, Alabama. A visitation will immediately follow the service. To honor his memory contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the River Region or to the Special Olympics of Georgia
