STONE, Allen Durand, 93, a long-time resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on April 5, 2017. He was born and grew up in the Taft Community of Cherokee County, Alabama. He graduated from Gaylesville High School in 1943. He was an active member of the school’s football team. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served on the submarine USS Charr during World War ll. He remained in the service of his country in the National Guard, stationed in Montgomery, until his retirement in 1984. He attended the University of Alabama, and was an avid Alabama sports fan all his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he and his wife Mae, were active in the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Oak Park F&AM Masonic Lodge, and was an Alcazar Shriner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life, and was a lifetime member of the US Submarine Veterans World War ll and the National Rifle Association. Allen Durand was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hattie Mae Yarbrough; his parents, Dr. Leonard Ray Stone and Mary Allen Tucker; his brothers, David Lamar Stone, Leonard Ray Stone, and a half-brother, John Hoyt Franklin. He is survived by his niece and nephews, Peggy Stone (Keith) Guyse, David Rice (Susan) Stone, Alton Dennis (Donna) Stone, Larry Ray (Mary Charles) Stone, Robert Lenn (Rhonda) Stone, and Michael Dale Stone; eleven great nieces and nephews, and 13 great-great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel, Sunday, April 9, 2017, at 1 PM, followed by a Graveside Service at 2 PM, in Greenwood Cemetery, with Ben McDavid officiating.
