

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allyn Mabson Thames Sr. and Willa Rutland Thames of Montgomery, Alabama; his stepmother, Katherine Trawick Thames of Montgomery, Alabama; and his stepbrother, Hugh Browning Thornton Jr. (Cecelia) of Birmingham, Alabama.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Katie Cox Thames; two sons, Dr. Allyn Mabson Thames III (Ashley) of Auburn, Alabama, and Christopher Rutland Thames (Adrienne) of Birmingham, Alabama; six beloved grandchildren, Ella Katherine Thames, Gray Elizabeth Thames, and Allyn Mabson Thames IV, all of Auburn, Alabama, and Caroline Willa Thames, Christopher Rutland Thames Jr., and Mitchell Henry Thames, all of Birmingham, Alabama; his sister, Gray Thames Thuston (Lee) of Birmingham, Alabama; his stepsister, Katherine Thornton Weller (Dennis) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church Montgomery in the Stakely Sanctuary on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the church parlor. A private graveside service for family members will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
