Alvin Foster Turner, a long-time resident of Montgomery, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the age of 93, just one month shy of his birthday. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Louise Turner; his eldest son, Larry Foster Turner; and his brothers, Sidney and Leslie Turner. Alvin was raised in South Alabama and enlisted in the Army for service during WWII at the age of 17. Serving in both the Europe and Pacific Theaters, he achieved the rank of Corporal as a member of the 32nd Signal Battalion. Upon his return from the war, he met and married Louise and the couple eventually settled in Montgomery to raise their five children. As a young adult, Alvin surrendered his life to Christ and was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church for the next several decades. In his senior years, he joined the congregation of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. While at Forest Park he served as a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher and Director and in many other capacities serving the Church. He was also heavily involved with the Carpenter’s For Christ and helped build Churches throughout the Southeast for many years. He was an Electrician by trade and worked at several local commercial electric companies throughout his career. Alvin is survived by four children, Linda Burrell of Montgomery, Mark Turner of Montgomery, Martha Sellers (Gilbert) of Troy Alabama and Alan Turner (Dara) of Wetumpka, Alabama; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 19, 2019, with a Celebration of Alvin’s Life in the Chapel at 1:00 pm, the Rev. Greg Gosselin will be officiating with the Rev. Art Long assisting. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery will immediately follow. Pallbearers will be Alvin’s grandsons, Ben Burrell, Dalton Turner, Sam Sellers and Jake Turner as well as his grandsons in-law, Kevin Dewberry, Jarrod Young, Branson Maynard, Stovie Moore and Evan Stringfellow.
The Family would like to express their love and gratitude for Louise and Alvin’s long time caregiver, Connie Anthony, as well as Vivian Hunt and Jesse McGhee who joined her as Alvin’s health declined. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Baptist Hospice of Montgomery for their loving care and assistance.
