

Angie Grimes was born on October 13, 1961, on the Army Airbase at Fort Rucker, AL to the late Bobby Joe Hughes and Julia Kate Hughes. She was raised in Dothan and was a 1980 graduate of Northview High School. She attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on a voice scholarship. Later, she completed the respiratory therapy program at Wallace College. She worked as a respiratory therapist in Montgomery and later as an insurance agent with Life Insurance of Alabama.
Angie was very grateful that she had been sober since 1991 and was very active with Alcoholics Anonymous until her health prevented her from doing so. She enjoyed her roll speaking to groups all over state at AA meeting, rehabilitation centers and prisons. She served as a sponsor, delegate, general service representative, outside sponsor for the Bridge Program, among others. She especially loved her work with the Bridge Program which helps inmates bridge the gap between incarceration and freedom to become valuable members of society.
Surviving relations include her husband, Charles “Bird” Grimes, her mother, Julia Kate Hughes, Dothan; one son, Evan Nichols (Shannon), Coffee Springs; two sisters, Anne Marie Hughes Spears (David), Dothan; and Nina Hightower; and special nephew, Freddie Smith (Courtney), Skipperville.
Angie is preceded in death by her father, Bobby Joe Hughes.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 10,2024 at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL with Brother Bob Sandifer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 in the Camilia Room.
