Ann Armstead (Mackie Camellia Brooks Armstead) (80) moved to her heavenly home on November 14, 2018 after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was a strong, generous person who spread laughter wherever she went. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, Grandmother (MawMaw) and friend. Ann was born on March 8, 1938 in Evergreen, Alabama to Sarah Powell Brooks and Edward Clyde Brooks. Weighing only 2 lbs at birth, she came into the world with a determination to live a long, happy life.
Ann married the love of her life when she was 16 years old, and they have lived happily together for 64 years. When they first met, Ann was called Camellia by her family, friends and teachers, but she wasn’t fond of that name so she told W.L. her name was “Ann”. And that is the way she lived life…on her own terms.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her only sister Mary Francis Welch. She is survived by her husband of 64 years William L. Armstead, daughters Debe Rodgers (Charles), Linda Huebner (Dennis) and son, (Ricky) William R. Armstead, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nephews all of whom she loved with great passion.
Services are being officiated by Daniel Edmonds at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday, November 19th, 2018 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00 am. Pallbearers include her 7 grandsons, Jamie Blackwell, Chance Armstead, Austin Armstead, Will Huebner, Westley Huebner, Micah Huebner and Drew Huebner. Honorary Pallbearers are her loving and kind caregivers, Jeanette Mintz, Bonnie Williams, Sandra Austen, Marie Kitt, and great-grandsons, Baker Weldon, Brooks Weldon, and Tabor Smith.
