Anna Frances Mantel

Anna Frances Mantel (Anna), 77 of Montgomery, Alabama lost her battle with cancer on August 20, 2026. Anna was born on July 31, 1949 in Brewton, Alabama to her parents, the late Marvin Philip Mantel, Sr. and Frances Lee Mantel.

Anna moved with her family from Brewton to Montgomery in 1959 and attended Cloverdale Elementary School, Cloverdale Junior High School and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in the class of 1967 before enrolling in The University of Alabama where she was in the School of Arts & Science, majoring in Art & Art History and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She returned home to Montgomery and became an accomplished local artist and was honored to have two paintings hanging in the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to painting, sketching and drawing, Anna enjoyed watching SEC football, working crossword puzzles, other math and word puzzles and watching Jeopardy and trying to beat the contestants while at home. (She usually did)!

Anna was also predeceased by her sister-in-law; Minge P. (Mindy) Mantel of Montgomery and her brother-in-law; Donald (Don) L. Avant of Hideaway, Texas.

Anna is survived by her sister; Lynda Mantel Avant of Austin, Texas and her brother; M. Philip Mantel, Jr. of Montgomery. Anna is also survived by her niece;

Deborah Avant Taylor (Bill) and nephew; Donald (Don) L. Avant, Jr. (Meleesia) all of Austin, Texas and nephew; Philip Mantel (Kristine) of Pike Road, Alabama and niece; Mary Frances Mantel Killeen (Daniel) of Fairhope, Alabama. Plus, numerous cousins, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

For the past three years, Anna has called Crowne Health Care of Montgomery her home. Anna's family wishes to acknowledge and sincerely thank all the employees, the medical teams and the administrative staff of Crowne for the extraordinary service, care, love and attention given to Anna. She truly loved all of you.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Greenwood Cemetery, Leak Memory Funeral Home directing and with Dr. Karl Stegall officiating.
