

Ashley was born May 16, 1977, in Asheville, N.C., to Barbara Cravey and Eugene Cyril Hawkins, Jr. A 1995 graduate of T.C. Roberson High School, Ashley attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated in 1999 and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She then graduated from Cumberland School of Law in 2002.
Ashley met her husband Richardson McConnell “Mac” Freeman, Jr., in law school, and the couple married on August 17, 2002, before moving to Montgomery to practice law. Ashley and Mac have three children, Mattie Dale Freeman, Richardson McConnell “Mac” Freeman, III, and Annie Barnes Freeman.
Ashley practiced law at Capell & Howard, P.C. She loved to travel with her family and plan trips together. The Freemans have been members of Trinity Presbyterian Church since 2002, and Ashley taught children’s Sunday school for many years.
In addition to her husband and three children, Ashley is survived by her parents, Barbara Cravey and Eugene Cyril Hawkins, Jr. of Asheville, N.C., sister Loren Hawkins Spiller (Robert) of Birmingham, Ala., parents in law Sherry Spann and Richardson McConnell Freeman of Opelika, Ala., sister in law Kelly Freeman Baum (Charles) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and seven nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held August 13, 2026 at 1pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, Ala., followed by a reception for friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or the Montgomery Humane Society.
