

PERDUE, BETTY SEYMOUR - age 94, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away January 4, 2024 after a very long and fulfilling life. A family and friends visitation for Betty will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. Following the visitation there will be a private family graveside at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
Betty was born in Dothan, AL in 1929 to Tarleton & Mattie Ethel (Hardy) Seymour. Musically gifted, she attended Huntingdon College on a music scholarship & while there met Glenn (O. G. Perdue, Jr), the love of her life. They married Dec 24, 1953 & were devoted to each other through 58 years of marriage until Glenn’s death in 2012.
Throughout her life she collected honors for her service as a musician, teacher, music educator, board member, arts visionary, community & state leader. Betty began her career as Director of Music & Education at the Forest Ave Methodist Church. Three years later, she became a Director of Choral Music in the Montgomery City school system, later she became Music Supervisor of all Montgomery County Schools, then moved to the state level and was the AL Dept of Education's Supervisor for Music & Arts when she retired in 1996.
During retirement, she became a board member & supporter of various charities & artistic organizations and was one of the visionaries behind the establishment of Montgomery’s Vann Vocal Institute. Through her knowledge of music, her devotion to her family, & her charities, she touched so many lives. Sharing the beauty of music was her life, her love, her passion, & her joy.
Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband Glenn, brothers Wallace Seymour & Terry Seymour, sister Winifred Mitchell, her brother & sisters-in-law Warren Mitchell, Carolyn Seymour, & Mary Virginia Perdue Stanford. She leaves behind sister-in-law Lynn Seymour, brother-in-law Allen Perdue, and many beloved nieces, nephews, dear friends and former students.
