On January 12, 2026, Bettye Joyce Crosby (Hall), 90, passed away peacefully at the end of a courageous and difficult battle with dementia, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 24, 1935, in Montgomery, AL and graduated from Lanier High School in 1953. Bettye previously worked for the State of Alabama at the Department of Public Safety. She was involved in various volunteer activities within her community, including serving as a member of the Baptist Hospital Pink Ladies.
Bettye was known for her hospitality, sense of humor and warm personality. As a devoted mother, wife, and friend, she enriched the lives of others and tirelessly supported those around her in any way she could. Her family was her greatest joy. She enjoyed keeping her home tidy and welcoming for family and guests. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and family, and playing a friendly game of checkers, dominos, or go fish was always a possibility. Her children have loving memories of her and the wonderful childhood that she provided for them. Her love for her family was exceeded only by her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, Kenneth A. Crosby; her beloved children, Laura Hershberger (Chris) and Danny Cheek (Dana); her sister Joanne Hall-Johns (Jerry Johns); her grandchildren Heather Young (Andy), Justin Avirom, Tiffany Jones (Chad), Taylor Lee, and Shawn Brown; and her great grandchildren Molly Jones, Davis Young, Ruby Young, and Sunny Lee; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Bettye was predeceased by her parents, E. M. and Eva Hall, as well as her brother, Eugene Hall (Peggy), and sisters Evelyn Leary (Gannon) and Brenda Gilliand (Melvin). Bettye is also preceded by her former husband and the father of their children, Edmund L. Cheek, and her lifelong friend, Charlotte Turnipseed.
Bettye cherished her extended family, including Al Crosby (Candie), Harvey Crosby (Angie), her grandchildren Lucy Jones (Jack), Allie Stanford (Johnathan), Casey Stephenson (John Mark), Lauren Rumore (Patrick), Amber Phillips (Drew), Lee Hogan, and great grandchildren Josiah, Noa Jane, Kolbe Ann, Leo, Ellis, Xander, Roman, Crosby, and Abigail.
She is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Ellen Cheek (Ted) and brother-in-law T. J. Manis (Margaret).
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 2:00.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35, 37-39
