Billy Earl Bruner

Billy “Pops” Bruner, age 87, of Montgomery, AL went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Billy was born on April 15, 1939 in Cuthbert, Georgia to Floyd and Lila Bruner. He was a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, class of 1957.

On November 22, 1961, he married Barbara Annette Bruner, and together they built a loving family over 64 years of marriage. He faithfully served Montgomery Water Works for 28 years before retiring.

Pops was a devoted member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church and lived a life grounded in faith and family. He especially loved spending time with his great-grandchildren, watching the Braves play, and relaxing with a good jigsaw puzzle.

He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Annette “Bea” Bruner; his 3 children Joe (Gwyn) Bruner, Greg (Christy) Bruner, Cheryl (Tim) Thompson; his 8 grandchildren Amanda (David) Vance, Kara (Mitchell) Bruce, Dustin (Sarah Blake) Bruner, Deanna Bruner, Tiffany (Andrew) Currier, Matthew (Jesse) Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Christa Whitacre; his step-grandchildren Lauren (Jesse) Weeks, Landon Waid, Gary Waid III; his cherished great grandchildren TR Bruner, Winston Bruce, Charlotte Claire (CeCe) Bruce; his step-great grandchildren Rhett and Emily Weeks; his brother Marvin Bruner, and countless “bonus” children who came through their house on Locust Street. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Lila Bruner; his siblings Marie Cox, Lamar Bruner, and Ann Waters.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Leak Memory. The family will receive friends for a visitation Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Leak Memory. Burial will follow at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Bruner, Matthew Thompson, Mitchell Bruce, Mike Bruner, Bruce Jones, and Darrell Bruner. Honorary Pallbearer Jerry Burger.
