Billy Benson Dykes

Billy Benson Dykes, age 89, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Norma Geraldine Kent Dykes; his sons Billy Benson Dykes, Jr. and Michael van Dyke; and his parents, William D. and Ruby Pearl Gray Dykes. Mr. Dykes is survived by his children, Shirley (Gary) Warren and Peggy (George) Sawaya; 5 grandchildren, Evelyn (Mark) Causey, Andrea (Junior) Ortiz, Howard (Pam) Powell, IV, and Stephen (Tiffany) Warren and George Sawaya, Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Willadean Kent Moore; and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Dykes loved serving in his church, which went from being a security guard to driving the church bus on trips and picking up special needs adults for church. He also led as a deacon but his favorite service was helping others. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Alabama Heritage Cemetery with Rev. Teman Knight officiating. Leak Memory Chapel is directing. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Horizons Class Bus Ministry of Heritage Baptist Church, 1849 Perry Hill Road, Montgomery, AL 36106.
