

After High School he went into the Army taking Basic Ranger Training at Fort Jackson SC with the 101st Airborne Division and then extensive training and schooling at Fort Smith AR. After Basic, he transferred to the Fourth Army at Fort Bliss TX, with the Aircraft Artillery and Guided Missile Center, working with Fire Direction Control. He also saw duty at Fort Huachuca AZ, and White Sands proving grounds in New Mexico. After military services, he worked many years with service automotive dealers in both Tallassee and Montgomery. He then went to work at Auburn University. After working days and going to school at night, he retired from Auburn as the Building Service Superintendent for Facilities. He retired from the 908th Airlift Wing Group at Maxwell Air Force Base, in Montgomery, AL.
He was a member of Dalraida Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Alcazar Shrine Temple in Montgomery. He was a member of the American Legion at Large and also a member of the Heritage Foundation.
Billy is preceded by his wife, Betty Lou Smith Humphries; his parents, Charlie Eugene Humphries and Ruth Grant Humphries; his brother, Bobby Grant Humphries; and his granddaughter, Susan Elizabeth Humphries.
He is survived by his brother, Marion (Mickey) Humphries; his children, Steven (Casilda) Humphries, Cynthia Posey (Robert Stephenson), William (Rattana) Humphries; and Warren (Shannon) Humphries; his grandchildren, Troy Austin Posey, Michael Humphries, Amanda (Jeremy) Peavey, Lauren (Dakota) Brown, Daniel Humphries, and Joseph Humphries; his stepchildren, Myra Roberts and Melanie DeRamus, his step grandchildren, Zachary Clifton and Anna Levon; along with five great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Posey, Michael Humphries, Daniel Humphries, Joseph Humphries, Bradley Humphries, Braxton Humphries, and Jeremy Peavey.
