

Bonnie was born in Akron, Ohio in 1926 to Fred and Lena Ferguson. Her family relocated to Coosa County Alabama where she grew up with her three younger siblings. She graduated from Weogufka High School in 1944 and then attended Auburn University for one year before graduating from Jacksonville State University in 1950 with a degree in secondary education. Her first teaching job was in Ashland, Alabama where she met the love of her life Jimmy Phillips. They were married on July 25, 1952, and celebrated 67 years of marriage until Jimmy's death in 2019.
They moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1953 where they lived and raised a family for 55 years. Bonie enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She dearly enjoyed traveling and attending Auburn football games with Jimmy and attended most Auburn games until the age of 88.
She and Jimmy were charter members of Weatherly Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville where they faithfully served for over 40 years. She and Jimmy moved to Montgomery in 2008 to be closer to family and then became active members of the Hurley SS class at Eastern Hills Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, her parents, a son, Charles Keith Phillips, a brother Fred Ferguson Jr. and a sister Barbara Freguson Forshund. She is survived by a son, James Stephens Phillips, Jr. (Cheryl); grandchildren, Jennifer Phillips Barrett (Will), Stephanie Phillips Wilkerson (Wesly); great grandchildren, Caleb Barrett, Payson Barrett, Libby Barrett, Chris Wilkerson, Jamie Wilkerson; a sister Betty Ferguson and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of John Knox Nursing Home for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Bonnie for over five years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 1, 2025, at 11:00am at Clay County Funeral Home 85251 Highway 9 Ashland, AL 36251. With a visitation starting at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Bonnie Phillips.
