Bruce Groves Salmon passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, after an extended illness. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Thad and Mabel Salmon on February 12, 1954, joining big brother Thad, Jr. The two brothers, only fourteen months apart in age, kept their parents busy with all their shenanigans. Bruce was a natural athlete throughout his childhood and most of his adult life, as well. He participated in baseball at the Little League, high school, and college level. He was an avid golfer starting as young as ten years old and throughout most of his adult life. His first golf instructor was his Grandfather Groves. A 1972 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School, Bruce went on to graduate from University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1976. Most of his professional years were spent as an employee of the State of Alabama Department of Public Safety as a computer programmer. A lifelong resident of Montgomery, he was a devoted member of the Church of the Ascension and a devout Christian. He enjoyed ushering at the early Sunday services, attending the Men’s Breakfast Group on Thursdays, and other church activities. He treasured the friends that he made at church. Bruce also loved to volunteer with various charities, including the Civitan Club, and made many friends in that capacity. He traveled and saw the world, and his brother and sister-in-law, niece, and nephew enjoyed his many visits with them in Missouri, Indiana, and California. He was preceded in death by his parents, five uncles and one aunt. Bruce is survived by his brother Thad Salmon (Cyndy), his nephew Jim Salmon, and niece Emily Salmon, his aunt Gail Salmon, as well as many cousins in various states. Bruce’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Ascension, 315 Clanton Avenue, Montgomery, AL, with visitation before the service at 1:00 PM, also at the church. The Reverend Candice Frazer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Church of the Ascension, Parkinson’s Foundation, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
