
Carmel Earwood Redmon, passed away in Montgomery, AL on Monday, October 21, 2013, at 88 years of age. The daughter of Walter and Vesta Redmon, she was born in Andalusia, AL, raised in Mobile, AL, lived in a number of locations during her life, resided for many years in two Tennessee locations, and finally returned to Montgomery where she was a resident at two assisted living facilities, Elmcroft of Halcyon and Angels for the Elderly. A lifetime member of the Church of Christ, she served her religious commitment in many ways, including five-and-a-half years of missionary work in Belgium just after World War II, working with the disabled at Nashville’s Clover Bottom Developmental Center, and substitute teaching at Alabama Christian College. In her later years, she pursued college-level educational achievement in preparation for her calling to provide Christian counseling. An accomplished artist, she won many awards for her work which included a number of murals and several important art commissions, among them a diorama at the Edgar Evins State Park in Tennessee. She was preceded in death by a son, Robbie Earwood, and by three husbands, Don Earwood, Charles Redmon, and Edward Peters. She is survived by a son, Don Earwood (Lana) of Knightdale, NC and daughters Linda Taylor (Duane) of Montgomery, AL, Becky Belcher (Byron) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Colleen Gibson (Rick) of Seattle, WA, Arlette Earwood of San Leandro, CA, and Jilliane Angel (Gabriel) of Prattville, AL. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and six stepchildren. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs at Elmcroft of Halcyon and Angels for the Elderly for their attentive and compassionate care of their mother. Ms. Redmon was known for her generosity and her positive impact on the lives of those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, she requested that memorials or gifts be made to Landmark Church of Christ Missions or a charitable organization of choice. A memorial service will be held at Landmark Church of Christ, Montgomery, AL, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, in the main auditorium.
