Carolyn Elizabeth Bergquist died peacefully on June 14, 2025. She was born on January 18, 1937 in Wetumpka, AL. She grew up on the family farm near Holtville, also known as Slapout. She helped out on the family farm tending to chickens, turkeys, working in Glasscock Dairies and on occasion, picking cotton. She graduated from Holtville High School in Holtville, AL.
She married the love of her life, Stanley Bergquist, Jr. of Millbrook, AL on June 6, 1956 when she was 19 years old, he was 21 and he had just graduated from Howard College (now Samford University). They had 4 children - Michael, John (Karen), Andrew (Lori) and Deborah Michelle.
Following high school, she attended Business School Training, mastering typing and shorthand, and worked for several banks as a teller in her younger professional years.
Her main passions and service in life were first for her Lord and Savior, and were best expressed by making a home and supporting her family using her gifts of cooking, flower arranging, and a green thumb, as well as being a good friend to those around her. They were active servants in every church they were members.
One of the most fulfilling times of her life was spending ten years on the mission field in Taichung, Taiwan at Morrison Christian Academy, where Stan taught history and they both were active mentors and advisors of many students. They also served in the English language church and with teaching English as a second language. From time-to-time Carolyn taught “American” style cooking from out of the home to interested Taiwanese friends.
Following her time in Taiwan, Carolyn supported her husband while he finished a seminary degree, and pastored churches in Durham, NC, Hogansville, GA and Sparks, GA. After his death, she did volunteer work, while helping with a new church start-up, Northway Community Church, in Valdosta, GA.
In 2020, she moved to the Carrollton, GA area to be close to family and enjoyed being a part of Roopville Road Baptist Church. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sisters – Mary Nell Reynolds and Jean Parmer and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents - William & Sula Glasscock, her husband – Stan, siblings – Roy Glasscock, William Glasscock, Annie Bernice McClellan, Paul Glasscock, daughter-in-law - Desi Bergquist and grandson -Tim Bergquist.
