Carrie Lee Kendrick

Carrie Lee Blackmon Kendrick was born on May 21, 1937, in Tyler, Lowndes County, Alabama, to the late Plude Blackmon and Verbie Lee Richardson Blackmon. She departed this life on September 23, 2026, at Baptist Medical Center East.

Carrie spent many years working in various roles with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) at Maxwell Air Force Base. Through her work and throughout her life, she carried herself with independence, confidence, and a strong sense of who she was.

Above all else, Carrie valued her faith and her relationship with God. She was a member of NCC – Safe Harbor Church, where she faithfully served in various ministries until her health began to decline. Her relationship with God remained central to her life and was of great importance to her.

Carrie also believed in enjoying life. She loved to travel, dress well, dine out, and experience life on her own terms. She knew what she liked, knew how she wanted to live, and made no apologies for enjoying the life God had given her.

In December, Carrie and her husband, Thessalonia Kendrick, would have celebrated 39 years of marriage.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Thessalonia Kendrick; her son, Anthony Cowart; three stepdaughters, Mary King, Carla Kendrick, and Donna Kendrick Spivey; seven grandchildren, Cardieres (Jasmine) Hill Sr., Martavius Bettis, Antonio Hill, Brian King, Kristen King, Justin Kendrick, and Christopher Spivey; seven great-grandchildren, Cardieres Jr., Kayden, Jasiah, Brianna, Kierra, Taylen, and Carmen; and her siblings, Frank Blackmon, Jessie Toles, Betty Blackmon, and Winston Blackmon. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives, church family, and friends who will cherish her memory.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Plude and Verbie Lee Blackmon; her grandson, Shaquille Hill; and her sisters, Cherrie Goodman, Annie Lois McWhorter, and Annie Pearl Lee.

Carrie Lee Blackmon Kendrick lived with faith at the center of her life and with a determination to live that life in a way that was distinctly her own. Her family will remember a woman who valued her relationship with God, embraced the experiences she enjoyed, and lived her life on her terms.

A friends and family visitation for Carrie will be held Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. A celebration of life chapel service will follow at 2:00 PM. A committal service at Greenwood Cemetery will commence following the service.
