

Born in Thomaston, GA to G. Len and Katherine Torbert Jones on August 22, 1921, Maggie was preceded in death by her high-school sweetheart and husband Lt. Col. Douglas Venable Lord, USAF, Ret. Their only child is Linda Lord.
As an Air Force family, overseas tours in Germany and Japan gave Maggie the chance to sample the cultures and arts. She continued to enjoy travel in early retirement with long-time friend Anne Jenkins of Thomaston.
She retired as an accountant from Central Alabama Home Health. Maggie was well known for her sewing expertise and creativity in design and crafts, which she shared with friends and family. She was a long time member of Dexter Avenue Methodist Church, now River City United Methodist Church. She frequently volunteered at the church, both in the office and a cook for many activities including avid support for the Friday Focus luncheons and the 301 Club.
In addition to her daughter Linda Lord, Maggie is survived by two nephews, Richard Jones (Jane) of Columbus, GA; John D. Bowell (Julie) of Texas; one niece, Harriett Jones Hilton (Wade) of Montgomery as well as many great and great-grand nieces and nephews. A host of great friends and co-volunteers celebrate her active life.
Service on Thursday, August 14, will be led by Rev. Tony McCullough of River City United Methodist Church assisted by Rev. Fred Bailey.
