
Ellen Catherine Manning Martin, age 91. Passed away after a brief illness on March 21, 2011 in Newnan, GA. Born on August 20, 1919 in Montgomery, AL, she was the daughter of Robert Emmett Manning, Sr. and Annie Louise Vortisch Manning. Catherine grew up in Montgomery, graduating from Saint Mary of Loretto School in 1937. She met John Warren Martin during World War II and married him on January 12, 1944. After many moves as an Air Force wife, she settled back in Montgomery in 1966. She lived the remainder of her life (with the exception of the last few months) in Montgomery, a faithful member of Saint Bede Parish. She is predeceased by her parents, husband John W. Martin, Sr; sisters, Mary Louise Manning; Marie Manning Whitson, and brother, Eugene Francis Manning. Survivors include her brothers Robert Emmett Manning, Jr. (Frances), Montgomery, AL, and William Frederick “Monk” Manning (Sara), Lillian, AL; sister-in-law, Mary Ethel Manning, Montgomery, AL; sons, John W. Martin, Jr. (Mari Ann), Casper, WY; Thomas E. Martin (Brinda), Newnan, GA; Robert C. Martin, (Susan); Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter Janet Martin Mastin (Hervey), Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren Cindy Beers (Bobby), Billings, MT; Brian Martin (Marcy), Casper, WY; Michelle and Nicole Hemstad, Denver, CO; Jeff Martin (Stacey) New Port Richey, FL; Casey Martin, Clearwater, FL; David Martin (Sandra), Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada; Shelby Martin, Newnan, GA; Bobby Martin (Kristi), Hiram, GA; Ken Martin (Melissa), Auburn, AL; Ashley Mastin (Jordan Gray) Atlanta, GA; Molly Mastin (Daniel Bertran), Atlanta, GA; and Kelley Mastin Higdon (Chris), McDonough, GA; and great-grandchildren Brice and Brody Martin; Megan and Emily Beers; Chloe Martin; Jordan and William Martin; Mikyla, Ruben and Drayden Martin; Elliott and Fiona Martin; Meredith and Paige Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Wesley Woods Assisted Living Facility in Newnan, GA for their special care to Catherine over the last few months. We would also like to say thank you to all of her wonderful caregivers, who provided assistance to Mom over the last several years. Special thanks to Wanda deButts, Annie Robinson, Carol Lovejoy, Tonya Sheriff, Terry Shaw, Cheryl Hanson and Anne Ledford. Visitation will be at Leak Memory Funeral Home on Thursday March 24 from 5:00-7:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Bede Catholic Church in Montgomery on Friday March 25 at 10:30 am; Father David Carucci presiding; with burial following in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Catherine’s grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
