Charlene Shoemaker

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Alvis Head, and by her husband, Jerry Shoemaker. She is survived by her sons Steve (Karen), Carey (Patti), and Paul. Her grandchildren Kristen Heath (Colby), Kathleen Morrow (Brennan), Tyler, Payton (Tori), Kendall (Erica), Dalton, Kyle, Cody, and Brianna. Her great-grandchildren Ty, Xavier, Miles, Sarah Mae, Calhoun, Henry, Elli Jo, and Truett. Her cousin, whom she loved like a sister, Carolyn Bigelow (Dick).

Charlene met her beloved husband at Ensley High School and was married just a few years later. She spent much of her life serving and standing faithfully beside Jerry as he served the state of Alabama as a State Trooper and Director of Public Safety. Charlene spent several years as an entrepreneur and built a thriving and successful business as a representative for Avon.

She loved the Lord and served for many years at Dalriada Baptist Church, singing in the choir, as well as loving and rocking babies in the nursery. In her later years she attended Eastern Hills Baptist Church, where she made precious friendships and loved and supported the ladies in her Sunday School class.

Relationships with her family and friends were the joy of her life. Among her many roles, “Mimi” was the one that she cherished the most. It was no secret that she would dote upon all of her littles. She was an unwavering support, a big bag of gifts at Christmas, and maker of banana pudding.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7 from 12-2 PM. The funeral will follow immediately after at 2 PM. Both will be held at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road. Montgomery, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Shoemaker, Payton Shoemaker, Kendall Shoemaker, Dalton Shoemaker, Kyle Shoemaker, and Cody Shoemaker.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama.
