ALLEN, CHARLES E. – Charlie Allen, 63, a resident of Montgomery, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 after a brief illness. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Leak Memory Chapel from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Montgomery Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Teman Knight of Heritage Baptist Church officiating. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred E. and Sarah Sellers Allen, and his sister, Carol Allen Davis. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda B. Allen; his daughter, Melissa M. Justice (Philip), grandsons Tristan and Davion Justice; special friend, caregiver and brother-in-law Ronnie Davis; brother-in-law Michael W. Baker; sister-in-law Angela B. Sterrett (James); niece Tomorra Foradori; and nephew Gregory Garrett, Jr. He also leaves to cherish his memory numerous family members and great friends, including Steve Bailey, Glen Criswell, Terry Posey, Randy Whetstone, and Gene Allen, who along with brother-in-law Ronnie Davis will be active Pall Bearers. Charlie was a Crimson Tide fan, animal lover, hunter, and NASCAR fan. He was an avid sports enthusiast, having played Men’s Major Open Slow-Pitch Softball in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, playing all over Alabama, and was part of more than one state championship team, as well as playing more than once for the national championship during that time. He seldom missed a NASCAR race in Talladega, and spent Iron Bowl Saturdays with his good friends cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. And his two babies, Lexie and Rogue, went almost everywhere with him, and they seem lost without him home. Charlie graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1968, and served his country during the Vietnam era as a member of the Alabama Air National Guard. He attended Troy State University, and after his Father’s death in 1971 left school to manage the family business. He worked for the City of Montgomery for over 20 years and as part of his responsibilities maintained Court Square Fountain and the city pools. Charlie was a great friend to the people in his life, and maintained a very positive outlook. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his friends and family. He was thrilled to be a granddaddy, and had looked forward to teaching the boys about the fine art of hunting. He was taken too soon, and will be missed beyond measure. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

I have just found out that Charlie passed. I am so sorry for your loss. I was named after Charlie's Father, and watched my Dad perform as Charlie's best man at his wedding. I watched Charlie as I was growing up play softball for many years. He left this earth to soon.....
