
November 5, 1947 – October 3, 2016
Mickey, as he was known by friends and family, departed this earth the 3rd Day of October. He has been rejoined with his Creator and the loved ones who went before him. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Jacob & Miriam Bateman, and his brother Le Bateman. He will be fondly remembered by his surviving family, including his loving sister Miriam “Mimi” and three sons, Michael (Lindsey), Stephen (Lyn) and Matthew (Salena). Additionally he is survived by six grandchildren (Megan, Theadora, Aurora, Andrew, Cora, and Seraphia.
As a member of the United States Army he served two combat tours during the Vietnam War, later received a degree in theology, then in nursing. He was a Minister of the Christian Faith, and founder of the Word of God Outreach. Most notably, he was an American martial arts pioneer, who introduced the art of Taekwon-Do to Alabama in the late 1960’s when he formed Bateman Taekwon-Do Oh Do Kwan.
Through preaching, teaching and care-giving, he has touched countless lives around the world!
Visitation will be held at Leak Memory the morning of Friday, October 7th at 10:00am and followed by an 11:00am graveside service at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery.
