Brannon, Charles Eric, 72, a lifetime resident of Montgomery, died peacefully at home on December 26, 2024 after living with Parkinson’s Disease for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William Tappan Brannon and Dr. Mary Jane Crump Brannon; his brother, William Tappan Brannon II, and his sisters, Candace Brannon Ozerden and Avis Brannon Gunter.
He is survived by his devoted partner, David Vaughn; his sisters, Donna Brannon Coon and Cordelia Brannon Green; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Charles was born in Montgomery on March 4, 1952. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s Degree from Huntingdon College. He was a fixture in the art and theater communities in Montgomery. Charles had an artist’s eye and an adventurer’s heart. He was infinitely creative, and had a gift for sharing his knowledge and talents.
He was quick to find potential in the world around him and brought several creative businesses to life. He loved travel, especially to Turkey, where he will be missed by friends in Istanbul, Akbuk, and Izmir. His love of history, art, and culture inspired him to open the Tumbling Waters Museum of Flags in Montgomery in 1974, a unique and innovative endeavor that remained open for many years. The non-profit that accompanied the museum oversaw national gatherings of flag lovers and experts in Montgomery as well as an enthusiastically received exhibition at the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
Charles Eric was a devoted partner, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed. Memorial contributions can be made to The Dr Mary Jane Brannon Endowed Scholarship at Huntingdon College. A Celebration of Life Service is being planned for a future date
