
“Smiley” is survived by two of his sons: Charles Franklin (Kim) Harrelson of Pike Road, Alabama and Jerry Scott Harrelson of Montgomery, Alabama. He is also survived by his sister Betty Campbell of Grady, Alabama; grandchildren Barry Harrelson, Megan (Ian) Brown, Kristen (Chris) Sifuentez, Heather Harrelson, Amanda Causey, Steven O’ Connor, Tyler Thompson, Jeremy Thompson, Charlie Harrelson, Katie Harrelson and numerous great grandchildren. Mr. Harrelson was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Arlan and Bertha (Prescott) Harrelson; two sons Terry Jarome Harrelson and Bruce Allen Harrelson; four sisters Eleanor Morgan, Jean Tew, Bernice Sorrells, and Faye Harrelson; and one brother Franklin Douglas Harrelson.
Mr. Harrelson was born February 13, 1937 in Crenshaw County, Alabama to Ernest Arlan and Bertha (Prescott) Harrelson. He attended Brantley High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. After moving to Montgomery, Alabama, Mr. Harrelson began working for the State of Alabama as a prison guard for eight years and then worked for Carolina Steel as a welder for thirty years where he later retired. Over several years Mr. Harrelson welcomed four sons into his home and set about teaching them baseball, football and mechanical trades.
In Mr. Harrelson’s younger days he enjoyed participating in a bowling league and playing in an adult softball league with his sons. Mr. Harrelson enjoyed living in the country, and spent most of his free time fishing. He loved to spend the holidays with his children and grandchildren.
A visitation is scheduled for Monday April 4, 2016 at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama from 5-7pm. The funeral services will be held Tuesday April 5, 2016 at 2pm at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Harrelson's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank family and friends for their care and dedication.
