He was a graduate of Howard College, Birmingham, AL; Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX; Emory University, Atlanta, GA; and The University of Georgia, Athens, GA. Charles was an ordained Baptist minister, serving at many wonderful churches throughout the years. He was also a librarian and professor.
Charles was a member of Taylor Road Baptist Church. He was the loving husband of the late Hazel Smith Jones. They were married for 62 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters Libby Poole and husband Mark of Montgomery, AL and Becky Early of Nashville, NC; brother James Jones and wife Janelle; one sister-in-law, Opal Barton and husband Dalton of Andalusia, AL; five grandchildren, Bill Davidson and wife Kellie of Daphne, AL, Matthew Davidson and wife Maureen of Atlanta, GA, Katie Laymon and husband Kevin of Wilmington, NC, Joseph Early and wife Alisa of Asheville, NC, and Kenton Poole of Montgomery, AL; seven great-grandchildren, William, Kara, twins Hannah and Emily, and triplets Samantha, Maci, and Bella; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. at White Chapel - Greenwood Funeral Home with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Children’s Center Adult Program, designated for the Over 21 Program, 310 North Madison Terrace, Montgomery AL 36107 Attention: Cynthia McCaghren.
