

Charles Joseph McGinty Sr., 85, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2012, after a brief struggle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Sheridan McGinty; daughters Mary Shea (Sid) Schroll, Jeanne (David) Barranco, Maureen (Arthur) Britton, and son Charles (Yvonne) McGinty Jr.; 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Rob) Garland, Brian (Gina) Schroll, Jeff (Beth) Barranco, Charlie (Rachel) Barranco, David Schroll, Ben (Alana) Barranco, Andy (Jenny) Barranco, Laura Barranco, Allen, Anna Kate, Connor, and Joseph McGinty; 11 great-grandchildren: Lilly, Matthew, and John Allen Schroll, Jacob, Mallory, Stephen, and Andrew Garland, Peyton, Cara, and Hadley Barranco and Madeline Barranco; sister Kathleen Simpson and brother Barney (Skippy) McGinty; Tom and Vivian O'Brien, Mary Clare Sheridan, Rita McGinty; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
“Charlie” was a generous man of deep faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and role-model for his family. He was born on January 18, 1927 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the eldest son of Andrew and Mary Cannon McGinty. His siblings are Margaret (deceased), Kathleen, Andy (deceased), and Barney. He grew up in Montgomery, attended St. Mary of Loretto Catholic School, and graduated from St. Bernard Preparatory School in Cullman, Alabama. He proudly served in the United States Navy after high school until the end of World War II. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Loyola University in New Orleans. He worked for GMAC after graduation and had a 37-year career with the company before retiring in 1987.
Visitation will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family is also grateful to Right at Home Caregivers and Southerncare Hospice for their excellent care.
