Charlotte Weaver Hopson, age 79, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Charlotte was a faithful and joyful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. She loved Jesus and was a wonderful and gracious sister in Christ. She was precious to her family and many dear friends.
Charlotte was born on July 25, 1944 in Windber, Pennsylvania to Carmen and Violet Weaver. She attended Windber Area High School. While working for the federal government in Washington, DC, a young Marine named Craig caught her eye and brought her to Montgomery, Alabama. They were married at Morningview Baptist Church and were lovingly devoted to one another for 58 years. She continued her career at the Veterans Administration as a government secretary until her retirement in 1999.
Charlotte was devoted to her family, friends, church and job. She delighted in traveling, shopping, exercising, beach trips, cooking and reading. She was also passionate about volunteering at the humane shelter, visiting nursing home residents, and humbly serving others through ministry work at Eastmont Baptist Church and Redland Baptist Church. Later in life, Charlotte enjoyed participating in the Respite Ministry Program at First United Methodist Church, trips to Dairy Queen, manicures and hair appointments, and singing along to hymns, Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley.
Some of Charlotte’s most memorable moments include completing a marathon at age 59, winning awards for running, performing a Jazzercise routine at a New Orleans Saints halftime show, traveling to Italy and participating in Walk to Emmaus.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, Craig Taylor Hopson, daughters Kim Hopson Foss (Brian) and Kris Hopson Swearingen (Manly), sister Gloria Weaver Bryant, brother Robert Merle Weaver, and grandchildren Annie Charlotte Foss, Nile Hopson Foss, Mary Saums Foss, Elizabeth Ann Swearingen, Zachry James Swearingen (Maegan) and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Wednesday, December 20 from 9:00am-10:00am with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 10:00 am.
