Lydia Claire Solomon Hixon, born in Montgomery, AL on June 1, 1927 and residing in Luverne, AL, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 16, 2020 at the age of 92. She was a devout Christian having accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age.
She was the first child of the late Mangrum Benjamin Solomon and the late Francis Boutwell Solomon of Montgomery, Al, and was the wife of the late Mira Sparks Hixon Jr of Montgomery, Al.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Wesley Solomon; sister Katherine Frances Byrd and survived by her sister, Bennie Jean Patrick of Prattville, AL; brother, Melvin Byron Solomon (Carolyn) of Deatsville, AL; sons Mira Sparks Hixon,III (Jo Ann) of Fairhope, AL Mangrum Randall Hixon of Birmingham, AL, and Thomas Byron Hixon (Kathy) of Montgomery, AL; one granddaughter, three grandsons; three great grandchildren, and many adored nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was actively involved in the organization of the Alabama State Fair's canning competition as shown in a favorite photo of her's with the late Alabama Governor, George C. Wallace
She was a homemaker for many years until her son persuaded her to "help out" at the kindergarten day care center he and his wife had opened. It became for her "the best job ever"- second only to raising her boys. During her many years as a kindergarten teacher, she worked at Busy Bee Day Care Center, KinderCare Day Care Center, and Eastern Hill Baptist Church Kindergarten.
A family graveside service will be held at Greenwood & Serenity Memorial Gardens in Montgomery, AL on Wednesday March 18, 2020 at 1:00pm with White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
