Dr. Clifford Jackson (Jack) Hataway passed away on May 4, 2018 at age 69 after an extended illness. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Heidi; his daughters, Elizabeth Andress Hataway Veres (John) and Ann Louise Hataway; his son, Clifford Jackson Hataway, Jr. (Michelle); his grandson, Clifford Jackson Hataway III; his brother, Mack Hataway (Linda); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sara and Cranford Hataway.
Jack was born on March 11, 1949 in Troy, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He worked as the Director of Chronic Disease Prevention at the Alabama Department of Public Health from 1990-2011. Prior to that, he attended and worked at the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine. He also served in the Air Force Reserve for 20 years, and retired with the rank of Colonel. His greatest joy in life came from his children, his wife and his extended family.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at First United Methodist Church from 12:00 until 1:00 pm, with a celebration of life at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease.
